Le réalisateur et scénariste Patty Jenkins (Monster) serait en pourparlers afin de réaliser la méga production. Sa candidature aurait devancé celle des réalisateurs Breck Eisner, Drew Goddard, James McTeigue et Noam Murro.
Thor 2 sera écrit par Don Payne, scénariste du premier film et de Fantastic Four : Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Chris Hemsworth reprendra le rôle du Dieu du tonnerre aux côtés de Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) et Anthony Hopkins (Odin).
